Obama Remains Ahead in Key States

After a difficult week for Mitt Romney, new polls released over the weekend didn't bring much good news for the Republican candidate for president. President Barack Obama remains in the lead in several key battleground states, including Florida, Ohio and Colorado. Nationally, Obama also has a small lead over Romney.

Florida

Two new polls of Florida show Obama ahead of Romney. A poll conducted by the Miami Herald found Obama up by one point, 48-47 percent. The poll surveyed 800 likely voters with a 3.5 percent margin of error. Another poll, by Public Policy Polling, found Obama ahead by a larger margin. The poll of 861 likely voters had Obama ahead four points, 50-46 percent, with a 3.3 percent margin of error.

Colorado

A second Public Policy Polling poll found Obama in the lead in Colorado. Obama led Romney by six points, 51-45 percent. The poll surveyed 940 likely voters with a 3.2 percent margin of error. In a statement, Dean Debnam, President of Public Policy Polling said, "We have consistently found Barack Obama leading in Colorado and that advantage is widening again as the election nears. Romney's going to need to get it turned around soon to have a chance at winning the state."

Wisconsin

A We Ask America poll, conducted between Sept. 20-23, had Obama with a double-digit lead. The president had a 12-point lead, 53-41 percent. The poll surveyed 1,238 likely voters, with a margin of error of 2.8 percent. Despite Romney's chose of native son Paul Ryan as his running mate, Obama has lead in all but two polls of Wisconsin since July.

Ohio

A new poll of the Buckeye State again shows Obama with the lead over Romney. The poll, conducted between Sept. 13-18 by Ohio Poll/University of Cincinnati, gave Obama a 5 point edge, 51-46 percent. The poll surveyed 861 likely voters with a margin of error of 3.3 percent. Romney has only led in one out of nine polls of Ohio in September.

Pennsylvania

The latest poll of Pennsylvania has good news for Romney. According to a new poll by the Tribune-Review, Romney has narrowed the president's lead to only two points, with Obama ahead 47-45 percent. The poll surveyed 800 likely voters with a margin of error of 3.5 percent. This is the closest the two candidates have been in any poll of Pennsylvania since February.

National Polls

Three new national polls show Obama in the lead. The Gallup Seven Day Tracking Poll has Obama ahead of Romney by 2 points, 48-46 percent. The candidates had been tied in this poll recently. The Rasmussen Three Day Tracking Poll had Obama ahead by only one point, 47-46 percent. And a poll by Politico found Obama up 3 points, 50-47 percent. All three polls were within their margins of error.
